Although well written with an easy to follow plot the story didn’t bring anything fresh to the table. I can easily pick out the characters abilities and weaknesses and point you to other vampire series’ containing the same traits. This fact doesn’t take away from the story but as a reader I can’t help but think oh yeah Sookie is a Fae and Bill was weakened by silver etc, so it can be a little frustrating. I did enjoy the book it had a good feel to it and I’m sure I will read more books by this author for her writing style alone, but as far as this being a memorable story that will stay in my head for the next 12 months…. Well I don’t think it was unique enough to do that. It is definitely worth a read though.

Abby is intrigued by the gorgeous man who seems to be watching her in the bar where she works, but she never thought she'd be so pleased to see him as when he rescues her from certain death at the hands of a demon as she is walking home from work through the park. Abby is in for more than she bargained for though, when it turns out that not only is the gorgeous Desmond really a centuries-old vampire, but she is half-fey herself. Suddenly caught up in a battle she previously knew nothing about, poor Abby is about to find that her life will never be the same. Can Desmond save her from the nasties that are out to get her? Can Abby stop herself from falling for the gorgeous vampire? And is it true that vampires mate for life? This was a fun paranormal romance, although I did feel it became a little predictable towards the end. Abby was an interesting character. I got the impression at the beginning that she was quite tough, and capable of looking after herself, but she did then seem to happily play the damsel in distress once Desmond came along. I can't say I really blamed her, I'm pretty sure I'd have been happy to play damsel in distress to a hunky vampire too, but I just expected Abby to have a little more spunk! I was also a bit concerned that she didn't seem to even consider that her best friend Kat might be worried about her considering the fact that she has obviously been missing for days! Desmond was definitely a sexy character. Right from the very first page he smouldered, and it was easy to see why Abby fell for him. He did become very territorial towards Abby at the end of the story, and even a little sappy, but what can I say? He was obviously in love. He did come out with the good old 'mine' line too – these vampires just want to claim you don't they? The romance was sweet at times, and Abby and Desmond didn't immediately fall in love with each other which was nice. There were some steamy moments too, which certainly got the heart racing. I did like the humour in this book also, Abby came out with some really funny lines, which really made me laugh! I liked the storyline in this book, although it was very reminiscent of a lot of other similar vampire-romance stories. Maybe I've just read too many, but it was quite easy to guess what would happen next. There was a storyline about supernatural beings mating, someone out there who wanted to harm Abby, the obvious storyline about Abby and Desmond falling in love, and quite a lot of people in Abby's life turned out to be supernatural too, which was a little hard to swallow for me. Would she not have noticed that someone who she claimed to know really well was not 100% normal? Not sure. I have to say that the beginning of the story was much less easy to guess at though, and the author did put in some interesting touches with regards to the vampires special abilities and exposure to sunlight etc. I did like the ending, it was very fitting, and I think there may have even been a big hint as to which too lovelies the next story in the series will focus on. Overall; a fun and sexy vampire romance, if a little formulaic in places. 6.75 out of 10.

You get to be a part of the whole thing, feeling like every character, mellowing in their sweetness and love. Tearing up in their pain and sorrow and enjoying each of their moments. And outside the house, Echo seems like the kind of place I'd go for a drink, but then there's outside Des' house, with all the wolves camping? I'd go spend a while out there, getting to know them. I could imagine every place described and I got to meet each character in my mind. Emotions were so well described I had chills running up and down my spine almost permanently. The author has a fluid style in her writing and a captivating narrative. I can't wait for her next book!!!

Can't wait for another book. This one was great. It was a little different twist on vampires with the daylight thing and friendships with werewolves. I liked that Desmond was friends with Luke and his wolfpack and that they protected him as well as he did them. The romance and bonding between Desmond and Abby was great. It went from first protection to romance to love to marriage in their eyes. Loved it!!

For her first novella, Ms. Kuncytes has created a fast-paced story that nicely combines intense sexual interludes, likable characters, an intriguing storyline, flashes of much-appreciated humor, and a cast of secondary characters that even though they're of the paranormal variety are easy to relate to. Though some aspects of the storyline are predictable I still enjoyed the author's writing style and recommend this series starter. Abby starts off as a very independant woman. She appears quite capable of taking care of herself but really just wants to live her life on her own. Unfortunately her life soon takes a dramatic turn where she must rely on another to keep her safe after the night she's attacked by a demon. This leads her to an unexpected world that's been hiding in plain sight and introduces her to an intriguing mix of paranormal creatures. As she gets closer to the mysterious Desmond who saved her she becomes a bit less independant and a bit more clingy towards Desmond. Thus begins their emotional back and forth where they want each other but don't want to admit it. As she's fighting to keep alive and deal with her attraction to Desmond she's also learning the truth about herself and others that provides a nice twist to the story. Desmond is your typical vampire.....sexy and brooding and I found myself drooling over him just like Abby. He's a predator not afraid to shed and drain the blood of an enemy but charming and romantic nonetheless. He's been keeping a close eye on Abby but must get even closer on the night she's attacked by a demon. He's attracted to her from the start and being so close to her brings out his possessive side. He acts irrational at times but these newfound feelings she causes him are hard for him to deal with. He brings her into his inner-circle of fellow paranormal creatures to keep her safe and you slowly see her integration into their unconventional family. There's also unrelenting sexual tension surrounding him and Abby and I enjoyed the progression of their relationship into even more intense encounters even as it frustrated me. Desmond and his friends will do anything to keep her safe and it all comes to a head in an extremely quick yet satisfying conclusion. Ms. Kuncytes has created an entertaining story that has some predictable moments but also a few satisfying twists and turns and a unique spin on traditional vampire myths. The romance is steamy and heartwrenching at times but ultimately culminates in a HEA. There's quite a bit of head hopping which allows the reader to get a better understanding of the character's hearts and minds. There's a delightful assortment of secondary characters that have me excited for the future, especially Luke who's Desmond's werewolf best friend. He's sexy and funny and loyal to those he cares about. Abby's friend Kat is also entertaining and just as loyal as Luke and I have high hopes for them and the continuation of this series. Fans of the paranormal will find much to like about this book even if they've seen some of it before.

One night after work, she knows something is not right. Her fears are confirmed when someone is following her through the park. Worse is she doesn't think it is human. But she he saved by the gorgeous man that seems to have been checking her out the past couple of nights. She soon finds out that there is much more in the world than she thought and she plays a great part in it. I really enjoyed this book a lot. It was a fast read full of demons, vampires, werewolves and more. I loved the romance and the mystery. I enjoyed the characters a lot in this book. Abby was a good lead for the most part. I know she is strong. She has to be given her past and what she has gone through. But when she meets Desmond, she was a bit too trusting. When he reveals some pretty big secrets, she accepted it so quickly. I mean, yes he is very hot, but I would have been a bit suspicious. He says he is a vampire and she just accepts it. At least ask him to prove it first. "Show me those fangs!" See? Done. I loved her, but still. Desmond was smoking hot and I enjoyed him a lot. I loved that he didn't keep the secrets about Abby from her. He told her plenty from the get go. I liked that. He is very protective and possessive of her very quickly. He is a monster, but I love watching him conquer the new feelings he is developing because of Abby. And actually vice versa for Abby. I loved the dialogue between the characters as well. Abby had me smiling along with her best friend Kat. Kat was a lot of fun and I hope we get a book of her and Luke. Luke is a werewolf and Desmond's best friend. Another character that was swoon worthy for sure. I loved all the things Kuncytes added in this story. Abby has found out something about her family and that has made her a big target. But this book is more romance than anything which I don't mind. Desmond and Abby were attracted to each other from the beginning. But they both have issues they need to overcome them first. I loved the push-and-pull between them. Just makes the steamy scenes that much more enjoyable. Trust me, it was worth it. The book is about 150 pages, so it is fast. We learn plenty all within the first two chapters really. But the book has a nice pace and I don't feel like anything was left out. This is Kuncytes debut and she definitely has major talent. I can't wait to see where this story goes. There were a few grammar issues, but nothing big. The story is engaging and well developed. I loved the world we were given and the characters within. If you are a fan of PNR, this is worth checking out.

I'm not afraid to admit that although the story sounded really interesting. I didn't like the cover, and let's admit it, we do judge books by their covers. I'm not a big lusty cover kinda girl. Remember, that thing in your skull is good for something other than mathematical equations. Sometimes you can use it to create fantastical things. Thank you, Darlene for something that helps that underworked part of our brains. :) The story was well written, the character development and arcs was great. I must say that my eyes kind of glaze over when I read romance novels through the sex scenes- it's just not my thing, but there are SO many amazing stories out there that have the lusty scenes that my mind just turns a blind eye. Yes, this book has sex scenes, they add the sexiness that many associate with vampires, but for me, the story was sexy. Darlene has a gift for writing that brings her reader into the world and makes them feel like they are right there with her characters. This is the first story I've read from her, but I hope she has a lot more out there! I'd love to read them- even if it means I have some brain glazing over moments. I love the story! I recommend this for paranormal romance lovers. It's a good read!

It was such a short interesting read loaded with many of my favorite supernatural's to try and keep you guessing at what was doing with the turning of the pages. I just can't do the novella justice. I was drawn into the world of Abigail 'Abby' Montgomery from page one and didn't stop reading until the final page and left me wanting more. Not to say I didn't have my hang ups with novella. But the hang ups are little things that with a learning author in time will clear up as they gain experience. Kuncyles surpassed all my expectations yet, left me with the lingering the question who's embrace truly saved whom? Kuncyles did an excellent job blending several different supernatural's vampires, demons, werewolves, fae and witches in the world she built. I for one hope this little novella isn't the only glimpse of Abby and Desmond we get to read. There is so much potential for the story to move forward and I will be first in line to watch Darlene spread her creative wings and write bringing a new adventure Abby's way. After all she is the highest ranking fea with a vampire hubby. What could go wrong?

Vampire paranormal romance is way out of my usual reading, but I decided to give A Vampire's Saving Embrace a try and I'm glad I did. Abby makes a few decisions that I found frustrating, but I think she learned her lesson by the end. There were also a few minor editing issues I found a little distracting, but nothing serious. I'm looking forward to catching up with two of the supporting characters, Katrina and Luke, in the next book, A Wolf's Savage Embrace.

This book drew me in right after the first few pages. I really enjoyed the story about Abby and Desmond. Desmond was dreamy. :) It was fast paced and held my interest all the way to the end. This is suppose to be a novella, but I was happy to see that there were 167 pages. Sometimes when I read a novella that is super short (less then 100 pages), the story seems rushed and unfinished. That was not the case with this one. I would recommend this to someone who loves a good paranormal love story. I c This book drew me in right after the first few pages. I really enjoyed the story about Abby and Desmond. Desmond was dreamy. :) It was fast paced and held my interest all the way to the end. So, I really enjoyed this book...to a point. The beginning was great, the ending was awesome. I have to get up on my soapbox though. Why must every woman have to be the kind that will overhear something and not either burst in and see what the hell is going on or ask about it later or wait to hear the rest of the conversation? I would. I know I'm not "typical" but, come on! Get a spine. If someone shows you they love you, even if they haven't said those exact words, take it for what it is. I read right through, couldn't put it down. The relationship develops between the main characters quick and hard, with lots of insecurity and passion. The only thing i could fault was when the 'main event' happened, it was a little flat. The build up was fantastic so it let it down to me. Other then that great read.

So i am just going to jump right into this song choice "Almost Lover" by A Fine Frenzy - and no this isn't how it ends, with them almost being together or what nots, it does have a HEA, but they are so ugh i will get to that later in the review. Kay so first and foremost, i think that this was a pretty alright book, but after awhile things were getting on my nerves, and it felt a little tedious and redundant...there was so much that could have been done with this book and i think that is what kind of bothered me the most, was when i went into this book i was thinking, alright this is going to be a romance, then when we learned more about the paranormal world they live in i was like HELL yes lets learn about this, and have some adventures! but it didn't want to go that way but the romance just started to piss me off to be honest. and again i will explain why in a little bit. Plot: um. hmm...well there was more than i expected when i started the book, some interesting twist that could have been again expanded on but just weren't...with that said this is how i saw the book in a simplified version: beginning = meeting each other, getting to known each other, middle of the book = SEX, and the last part = a little bit of action...oh anticlimactic...and some more going around in circles like before yay THE END!. i promise i will get to that circles thing that i keep mentioning in relationships but its going to be a good rant so i want to get this out of the way first. It really was more of a "romance" than adventures/action like book which is fine but i think that for me at the moment i was looking for more action than romance, so that is why i am trying to be fair at the moment and give a 3 stars because i think mostly it is the mood that i am in, but before you totally blow me off because you are like she is being bias and rude, let me tell you why i know EXACTLY why this book would have gotten a three from me in the first place anyways. Relationship. OH MY FUCKING GOD. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Oh he doesn't love me, he can't love me, because i cannot love him because i need to stay distant from everyone. - that is Abby. oh i can't love her, i need to stay away from her i need to stay distant from everyone because i am SUCH a monster for killing evil beings! - Desmond. Yes i just went there. i am sorry but these two really needed to get over themselves and talk to one another. i think that is what bothered me to no end is that these two didn't EVER really talk, they talked about the past and what nots but how they couldn't figure out from THOSE conversations that obviously a)the other is opening up to you like they have not anyone else and b)they probably have some type of commitment issue, or the idea of being with someone because they are scared they will be left behind is beyond me because i figured it out without having the narrators telling me all of the time. yes all of the time. Now if these two had actually voiced what they were really feeling before the very end of the book so much more could have happened in their relationship, they could have loved each other, TOGETHER and not separately and crying on the inside/sometimes on the outside. UGH ITS CALLED COMMUNICATION!!! go to a therapist or something. And there is something else about the narrators thing, it was in omniscient POV and if you don't know what that means for some odd reason, it means there is this figure that can go into everyone's head and knows everything, well this was like limited version stuck to the "good" characters, but the thing is i hate omniscient like almost all the time because it feels sloppy and it can become confusing, sometimes i do this really weird thing when i read and i pretty much force the book into first person without realizing that i am doing it, which it okay most of the time but when it comes to omniscient books i start to wonder who the hell is talking, especially if you change it paragraph to paragraph. not cool. i am sorry maybe that is just me but i really do not like omniscient and i think there was only once that i didn't totally and completely hate it but i can't be for sure on that one. Characters. Abby: God dammit i was ready to kill her at the second half of the book. i really liked her at the beginning of the book. i thought right off the bat the moment we meet her that she was going to be this really strong lady who could hold her head in the mist of a fine looking gent, nope. dashed my hopes pretty quickly about that but than i was like alright, i can deal with that, obviously sometimes we lost ourselves around smoking hot gents its alright, we are just human. then i was like okay she is about to be attacked and yeah she is scared - normal reaction but she does try to fight back, win win in my book. but than i don't know somewhere in the middle of the book she starts acting like she isn't this strong woman that she claims she is in the beginning of the book, and i can forgive some stuff because she feels heartbroken at times, and that i will allow but when she doesn't ever tell him how she feels, what does she expect? and come one eavesdropping NEVER results in a good thing. i mean come on. Okay she also had this "catch phrase" well two of them really that she always said and she was going to drive me up a fucking wall if she said it ONE MORE TIME, and it was "Cripes!" and "Holy Hell" just stop it. stop. Des calls you witty but you repeat yourself a million times over....so no. stop. Desmond: I could see right from the beginning this was going to be a "kindred souls" love affair, and i think i am more of an opposite attracts kind of girl maybe that is why i was so mad because he had a lot of the same problems as Abby. Because he does finally realize he is in love with her you know what he decides to do? wait and tell her later because that is such a good idea. *rolls eyes* He was BEYOND annoyingly possessive, maybe not so much possessive as jealous and it was mostly in his head, and i mean i am just like almost every other girl and i love possessive men they are the greatest, truly but seriously Des was just annoying about it, if she as much as talked about this best friend in some type of compassion because he had a hard life too he would get all upset and start calling him a cur, or mongrel, (best friend is a werewolf) and i am just like whoa there BUDDY calm the fuck down, she is just a compassionate person is that so wrong? and you should feel pride that she cares about your friends who have become like family to you. asshole...what? i didn't say that, then at the end he was so back and forth i was like excuse me i am getting dizzy stop. He had a catch phrase too which was "for all that is holy..." and i swear i think he said it almost every time he opened his damn mouth so yes i was ready to kill him for that as well. Okay i know i should stop just ranting about them obviously she brought this new side of him which was really cute and i really liked that. The ending, well it ended so i am assuming that this is going to be a series that jumps to a different character, which YAY cause i love those, and if it is about Luke (werewolf best friend to Des) and Kat (best friend to Abby) i might actually give it a shot and a half because i liked them. But we shall see, we shall see. In A Vampire’s Saving Embrace Abby is working on living an independent life and getting over the trauma her ex caused her. The only problem is that there is a handsome man who continually shows up at her job and keeps his eyes on her. When Abby finds out that she is not an average human and Desmond is not some random sexy patron she must come to terms with the fact that someone is after her and the only person that can protect her is the handsome vampire that can’t stay away. When I first picked up this book I instantly liked Abby’s independence. She seemed tough and I believed that she would be a kick ass protag. But that sadly isn't the case after she's rescued by Desmond. She becomes you typical damsel in distress and quite obsessed with Desmond. And I liked Desmond’s straight forward attitude at the beginning. I find it infuriating when characters take forever to reveal what they are and what is going on so this was a breath of fresh air. I also initially thought that Desmond was one hot and sexy vampire. He was sweet and attentive but he was lethal which makes a pretty bad ass combination. Sadly Abby quickly becomes very dependent on Desmond and he in turn becomes possessive and a horny vampire. Most of the book is set inside of Desmond’s room and consist of the same sequence of events. They talk, they get it on, they’re attacked, they have sex, they fight, they have make up sex, and so forth. It really reminded me of an adult Twilight with a mix of True Blood, as my friend pointed out. The secondary characters were great additions to the story and enhanced the reading experience. I liked Luke, Kat, and Marcus and can’t wait to read their stories. Overall this read was an okay. I don’t fare well with insta-loves so I struggled to get through this book. I wished there was more depth in Des and Abby’s relationship and that there were more action. I was also a little put off with the fact that he calls her “my pet”. Now I know it’s supposed to be an endearment but every time he said it I felt like she should be obeying some command. It actually made me cringe and laugh. That along with other parts brought forth the humor while reading which made for an okay read.

Abby just wants to be safe, after she has learned of all the things that really do exist. She never thought she would find love. But Desmond and Abby go on a beautiful journey together and find love. It takes them a lot longer to see it coming then us readers. But you gotta love that about them. They are both stubborn and wont admit what is right there in front of them. The side characters are just as memorizing as the main characters. I was wanting to read just as much about them as I was Desmond and Abby, Marcus his brother, Luke the Were, and her best friend, Kat. Over all this book was amazingly awesome! I would def recommend it, especially to all your paranormal lovers out there, it has a little bit of everything in it. Vampires, Demons, Werewolves, Feys. Yep. Go on a journey with Desmond and Abby, a journey you won't forget. And then stay on the ride and join Luke and Kat in A wolf's Saving Embrace. If you think Vampires are hot wait until you read about Luke!!! Thank you Darlene for taking me on a journey, one I had forgotten how much I loved, I can't wait to read more on this series!! <3 Pick it up ! You won't regret it!! <3

I’ve heard only positives in regards to this authors writing style. So when there was an auction and Ms. Kuncytes books came up for bid, I knew I had to have them. When the handsome, awe inspiring Desmond comes in for another visit, Abby can’t help but be drawn to him just as much as he is to her. But demons are out to get her because she holds something special that they want and need. With the help and protection of some very fine vampires and a were named Luke, Abby will find she’s brought into a world she never believed existed and find she is something more special than she could have ever imagined. Is she willing to follow her heart when it comes to Desmond, or is she too willing to keep him from harm for fear he is just there to fulfill an obligation from someone that they both knew?

I LOVE the cover of this book; it is brightly colored and eye-catching. This debut novel by Darlene Kuncytes did a superb job of developing amazing characters. As a bonus this author did something inimitable with those characters that I felt deserved a mention. While the main characters are Desmond and Abby she gave a fair amount of page space to the other characters (Marcus, Lucas, and even little Caleb). The story does have some rough patches but the story arcs flowed smoothly. The author did I LOVE the cover of this book; it is brightly colored and eye-catching.
