Kat likes her morning coffees extra sweet, popcorn dinners by the TV, and curling up with her sketchpad. She can also be bribed with donuts. Her steady life of routines has no surprises around the corner, no landmines to step on, and that suits her just fine. But then comes Jules with his dark eyes and beckoning smile, wild and devastating as the sea. And she finds herself Kat likes her morning coffees extra sweet, popcorn dinners by the TV, and curling up with her sketchpad. She can also be bribed with donuts. Suddenly Kat is adding brown eyes and dimples to her favorites list. But as Jules sweeps into Kat’s life, she finds herself struggling to gain footing in the currents of their attraction. What does it mean to love in the face of self-doubts? And as her walls crumble in his wake, can she find steady ground in the storm that is him?

I want it all.” What a fantastic debut novel by Ellie Penn! The author guides us through Kat’s inner growth, both emotionally, as an artist, and in her relationship with Jules. It is a sweet, heartfelt, and at times deeply moving, read. Written in first person, readers get to follow along as Kat learns to let down her guard (or venture out her garden as the book puts it) and fight for what she loves. “Maybe creativity ran most vivid in the depths of loneliness and longing…The yearning soaked into my bones and bled out with every stroke of the pencil.” Oh don’t get started on the hero, Jules. WHERE CAN I FIND A JULES OF MY OWN? He is my new BBF. Tall, dark, handsome and a total Alpha Male. He is so protective of Kat and adores her for all her idiosyncrasies. The sparks fly like fireworks between the two. His lips traced along my pink skin like a brand. “After all that we’ve done, you’re still getting shy on me?” My eyes fluttered shut when his hot mouth closed around my breast. “You’re always muddling my head. That probably isn’t going to change.” He pushed me back down onto the bed. “I have every intention to keep you blushing.” Jules won me over with how patient he is with Kat. He’s possessive without being overbearing, alpha without the asshole. He gives her the space she needs to work out the worries in her head, but is always there waiting for her. The two of them together is so sweet and their chemistry is off the charts ;) The story was a solid 4.5 Star read. I only wish it was longer. The author did a nice job bringing the story to a full circle with the garden allusion in the climax. The epilogue in the end where we get Jules’ POV is a nice touch too. “Walk away to magic, Katherine, and know that I’m with you every step of the way.” *ARC courtesy of author in exchange for an honest review

5 Stars ***** Received copy in exchange for an honest review. I’m always on the lookout for funny and romantic reads. This was a winner for me, being fast paced and entertaining, with just enough heart to go with the humour. “I would change if I could, but my fears and doubts were a maze that tangled together in my mind. I simply couldn't help living in my head. My insecurities taunted me to pick things apart from every angle, finding jagged edges in what should’ve been water smoothed rocks. 5 Stars ***** Received copy in exchange for an honest review. I simply couldn't help living in my head. My insecurities taunted me to pick things apart from every angle, finding jagged edges in what should’ve been water smoothed rocks.” Kat is such a delightful, passionate character. She has her quirks and a weird obsession with food. She runs into Jules in a café and the sparks fly, but she chalks it up as a random encounter and leaves it be. They meet again weeks later and this time, Jules isn’t letting her get away. “I was used to the quiet order of my life, having mapped my routines until my days followed comforting, straight lines. But Jules toed those lines now, smearing them astray and lighting up the glooms of the rainy week until I knew I wouldn’t think of blanket forts again without thinking of him.” I never thought I’d be reading a book about blanket forts and cat obsessions. Kat is delightful but the hero is the real highlight for me. He’s sexy and thoughtful, and treats the heroine like she’s the only woman in the room. This novel has everything from crazy situations to laugh out loud moments, to really honest and beautiful writing. Plus an Alpha male and romance burning up the sheets. I highly recommend this one.

Jules is an impressive debut novel by Ellie Penn. A heartwarming and sexy love story with a shy heroine Katherine, who always plays it safe and a sweet and sexy hero Jules, who kept surprising me throughout. Ellie Penn wrote the perfect book boyfriend with Jules. He had many layers and it was nice to see how he got Katherine out of her shell. While there were a few minor editing issues, I was still charmed by this book and look forward to seeing how this author’s work evolves.

What a wonderful debut novel by the talented Ellie Penn! Jules is a beautifully written contemporary romance about a young woman named Kat – who, to me, is a kindred spirit. She is an introverted artist that sticks to a strict day-to-day routine. Instead of taking your normal trek to work, choose the longer one. Pass by a different street, one that you’ve never explored before” “Why though? I’ve already figured the most efficient route.” “Stop and smell the roses, as they say. Maybe you’ll even stumble on a new flower for your garden.” Kat is so smitten by her handsome stranger, Jules, that her best friend is amused by it all. Did I mention that Kat and Nelly’s friendship is pure comical gold? Nelly: Did you do the deed? Nelly: Should we go with three tiers or five, for your wedding cake? Nelly: Answer the phone or I will eat all the marshmallows in your Lucky Charms. And as for Jules, he is a man of many ventures. I loved discovering all the different sides of him along with Kat. Girls, we all need a man that will snuggle in a blanket fort. 4 stars! A special thanks to Ellie for providing me with an advance readers copy for in exchange for an honest review! I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review! I can honestly say that for Ellie Penn being a new author you cannot tell. Her writing style was just beautiful and the little details added are what made this book! Jules was an amazing man who seemed like he had it all and Kat was the perfect match for him! I found her insecurities very refreshing considering the roles they both played. I felt that I could relate to her in so many ways. (I hate cheese as well! Crazy right!) 4 Jules stars! “I'm going to kiss you good and proper, unlike those boys you've been with in the past.”... “And every sunrise after, you'll be reminded of me.” For a debut novel, Ellie Penn did an impressive work introducing Jules and Kat in a heartwarming way that captures the readers' hearts and makes them have all the feels. “I collected cat videos and business cards from donut shops. This man collected posh restaurants. Our differences just kept growing.” Jules and Kat were running in different circles but even though love found its wsy to their hearts. I adored Jules because he was loving, passionate, thoughtful and so determined to penetrate Kat's shyness and get to her heart. Add their sizzling chemistry to the equation and you'll get an explosive story. “Who’s making you wet, Katherine? Who’s making you drip like this?” He ground out. I moaned, shaking my head. “Answer me.” His touch grew fiercer. My body jerked as I cried out, “You, Jules. Only you.” This book had everything I loved in a book. The chemistry, the characters and the story were fabulously put together making Jules an awesome read. ARC kindly provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

My god this book is just steamy and brilliant! I laughed so much while devouring this. Kat is hilarious. You seriously never know what’s going to come out of her mouth. But I love her character. Jules. Holy hotness. I just love him. He needs a trophy for putting up with Kat’s antics. I swooned, laughed and had fuzzy feelings in the end xo Arc kindly provided for honest review

3.75/5 ITS SAFE! I liked the hero, though he did tell her he will spank her a lot(lol) but honestly he was super sweet without being dumb and I appreciated it. The heroine was a quite anxious but i for one understand anxiety, so I wish we got to see her actually work through her anxiety but I liked them together like a couple.

However, I agreed to this one simply because it was written by a brand-new author and I think it’s extremely important to support them. At its core, this was a love story between two very different people. Jules is confident and self-assured, the kind of guy that doesn’t hesitate to go after what he wants. He lives in the moment and takes chances. Kat, on the other hand, likes to blend in as she goes about the practiced routines that make up her life. She’s an introvert through and through, but she’s also insecure and a touch anxious. Since I’m someone that is definitely more like Jules, there were times that I found it tedious to be inside Kat’s thoughts (the story is told through her POV only). That being said, it did help me not resent her for the times she doubted Jules and their relationship. He was pretty special, after all. Also, Kat loves cats and Corgi’s, so that took her a long way in my book. I really liked the pace of this story. I didn’t freak out about frequent interruptions because it was easy to pick up and set back down without feeling like I had lost my groove. I also loved Jules. He was interesting, determined and smitten. The truth is that this story was a fairly simple and realistic one that was written well, especially considering she’s a first-time author. Sure, there were typos and a few grammar mistakes, but I see those from established authors that pay an editor. It didn’t detract from the simplistic beauty of Kat and Jules’ story. There was no roaring climax, no big twist, but that was okay for me this time. I didn’t need those things. The side characters we’re great, especially Kat’s roommate Nelly as well as her coworkers. The sex was hot, but it didn’t fill every page. Their connection was center stage, and it was palpable, thus it didn’t need the normal plot devices to keep the story going. Personally, I’m excited to see how Ellie Penn develops and grows as an author. Side note: for those who care, this story is definitely safe.

4 / 5 stars This was a lovely and suprising romance book, it was angsty and wonderful and focused on so much more than I was expecting. I have decided to leave a rating off this one. I really wasn't into the writing and I didn't want to rate a book that I didn't fully finish. You do not see that often in romance books, where the main characters gives everything up for their love interest. Jules was also pretty good. He adopted the typical jealous boyfriend posture sometimes, which I wasn't too excited about, but this is NA, so I kinda expected it. I wish this book was longer, so that we could've seen Nelly and Kat's relationship develop quite a bit more, but apart from that, I believe Jules is a great debut novel for Ellie Penn. Definitely going to read more books by her!

What a fun read! Kat is quite whimsical in her adorkable ways. All her little insecurities and idiosyncrasies make her such a wonderfully empathetic character. Although I think because of her doubts, I found it a little difficult to believe that Jules would fall for her so quickly. But fiction, right? Filled with many laugh-out-loud moments ... I really enjoyed my time with this book.

This read is a perfect balance between sweet/fluff and steamy. A quick read, if I must say. I love how the author presented the heroine, Kat. She's shy and an introvert. But what I love the most is that all these insecurities and complexities, they are not a product of her troubled past or something along those lines. I mean, for once in a blue moon, I appreciate how the author brought up this mortal flaws out of just as mortal flaws. That all these characteristics of the heroine are just as they are. That one needs not to have a rocky relationship in the past that burned her for all future relationships or that she's jaded from a broken family. There's is absolutely nothing wrong with those scenarios, per se. It's just that...it's Kat's personality. Period. And I have brought this point up because some people think there must be enough reasons (e.g. dificult history or environment) to validate their emotional messes. But sometimes, people like Kat (that is, people who are fundamentally shy and afraid) just needs someone patient by their side. Aaand this is where Jules comes in. First of all, let me swoon in all this hero glory. Everyone needs a Jules in their mundane lives. He's light, bold, warm, patient...and just so freaking delightful to read. In short, he's every hopeless romantic, every book nerd...every woman's wet dream in the flesh. /LeSigh Although I thoroughly enjoy devouring this read, I have left one star off the rating because there is actually little to no plot development. In this read's defense, Kat and Jules are a done deal so it's just a matter of how the two will roll. True, they have had a major struggle - but it is mostly a character development for the heroine. Not counting Martha, the miserable hag.

Oh my heart... This is one of those books that you miss the characters long after you have finished the book! Kat and Jules have such an amazing relationship with a quirky sense of humor. Their banter makes me giggle and their intimate moments are HOT! There are some similarities in their relationship and 50 Shades, but this is the better, more in depth, realistic version. There is no "sign on the dotted line", however, there is an agreement and mutual respect of that from both parties. Jules is Oh my heart... I first discovered this book in a list called "The Most Anticipated Romantic Novels of 2019" on Amazon (I think? Or on Goodreads maybe, not sure). In all honesty, I chose this book from the list because the other options were, shall I say, the stereotypical romance novels with the very serious (and very muscular men) on the cover as if they were staring into your soul. Not that there is anything wrong with that, and I am in no way trying to reign on the parade of people who read those books, but I first discovered this book in a list called "The Most Anticipated Romantic Novels of 2019" on Amazon (I think? In all honesty, I chose this book from the list because the other options were, shall I say, the stereotypical romance novels with the very serious (and very muscular men) on the cover as if they were staring into your soul. Not that there is anything wrong with that, and I am in no way trying to reign on the parade of people who read those books, but you get what I'm saying: not my style of romance book. I wanted a sweet and lighthearted love story after reading a few terribly sad romantic novels (**cough cough "The Light We Lost" *cough "It Ends With Us"). Luckily, this book was just what I was needing. If you are in the search of a romantic, but also cute and humorous, love story then you are in luck! Kat, the main character of the story, craves predictability, safety, and routine in her life. She takes the same route to work each day, and the same route home. To others, Kat's life may seem boring, but to her, this lifestyle feels safe and secure. So when her typical routine is thrown off by Jules, a charming, witty, and (gasp) extroverted man who quite literally intrudes into her life, she is taken aback. Kat questions the compatibility between her shy and introverted character and the character of Jules, who seems to be the life of the party. As Jules and Kat date and get to know one another, Kat is forced or, rather, feels like she is forced, to attend social events with Jules. Kat has to step out of her comfort zone and experience the opposite side of life than what she had been so used to.. Over time, she begins to become familiar, but in no means comfortable, with this social life, and she begins to question the compatibility of their relationship less and less. However, the strength of their relationship is tested when Kat is offered a job opportunity in Paris. Obviously, there is much more to the story than just that short summary, but I didn't want to spoil too much for those who wish to read it! I gave this book three stars for a couple of reasons: 1) To me, the story lacked a rich plot with an issue that posed a threat to the relationship between Jules and Kat to drive the reader to keep reading. In my experiences in reading romantic novels, there is always an issue presented either in the beginning or middle of the story that truly tests the relationship between the said characters. Although Kat's shyness and Jules's love of social interactions was an issue in and of itself, I just felt that this was not enough to truly drive the story. In my opinion, the job opportunity that Kat is offered would have been an even more excellent issue-driven plot had it been presented much earlier than it was actually introduced in the book (which was about 70-75% in!) I think this would have kept me, as the reader, on my toes much more than I was. 2) Maybe I was the only one that experienced this issue, but I just didn't feel that sense of connection with the characters that I typically do while reading romance novels. I did not feel like the characters were developed or explained enough for me to truly connect with them. The only reason I felt that I could connect with Kat was because, as a fellow introvert, I could understand her hesitancy to date someone who is an extrovert and enjoys socialization. I also didn't feel very connected with Jules very much at all. If I recall correctly, Jules was presented as a character without flaws, which in my 20 years of experience in life, meeting anybody without flaws, especially men, seems to be impossible. I think that by adding more layers, maybe even secretive layers, to Jules could have helped eliminate this issue. Other than these two reasons, this book was really a great read. I was actually unaware that this was Ellie Penn's debut novel up until recently! So take my nitpicking with a grain of salt. I actually laughed out loud, which I don't do often with books, at Kat's humorous retorts to Jules's many comments about her shyness. I enjoyed experiencing the love between the characters grow and be tested in certain parts of the story. It was filled with a balanced amount of romance and heat (if you get what I'm saying, *wink wink), and humor. Overall, it was a cute love story and a great debut novel for Ellie Penn!

This was a nice refresher for me. 😍 I missed reading a cute romance novel that included a man with mesmerizing eyes and a personality that just made you swoon! ❤️ Katherine likes order in her life and she prefers staying at home curled up reading a book than going out clubbing all night long. Just like me 🤣 She’s not much for stepping out of her comfort zone. You can bribe her practically with any type of food as long as it tastes divine. Just like me 🤣 She’s not much for stepping out of her comfort zone. You can bribe her practically with any type of food as long as it tastes divine. Her weak spot though are donuts lol Jules is the embodiment of confidence, he knows what he wants (which is Katherine) and doesn’t back down. 😉 They each live different lives, Katherine is an aspiring artist working a desk job with the dream of moving up to the art team while Jules is an entrepreneur dabbling in many restaurants, bars, lounges etc. Katherine’s fear of the unknown guides her actions, it’s the reason she doesn’t venture out of her bubble. Her struggle was evident throughout the story with her indecision to go to Paris for a job opportunity and where her relationship with Jules was going. Thankfully, Katherine chose to silence the voices in her head and take a chance. 👍 She learned to put her faith in the others and stop thinking so negatively on things that scared her. Change is the only constant thing in life, if you don’t try to venture out of your comfort zone then you may never get to your dreams. It’s healthy to do things you may never have thought of doing because you learn and you grow from those experiences. I really liked the message of this book. It’s something I myself had to come to terms to and I’m glad I did so. Moving on to some things I wished were a bit different. 🧐 At times I felt like Katherine was a bit childish for my taste and it took me out of the romantic moment Jules and her were having. It was cute but sometimes a little too immature. I had hoped for more encounters between Jules and Katherine revolving his line of work. I would have loved seeing him in a more professional manner and have Katherine demonstrate her more artistic side too. They could have worked together on a new restaurant opening up or something. 🤔 One last thing would be that I wanted more!!! Only 16 chapters??? That felt so short for me, then again I tend to read books that are more than 20 chapters long 😅 still though I really liked it! 💙❤️

4 Stars I adore this… Chick-lit isn’t my usual cup of tea but this one is an exception. Romance fans are in for a treat ;) Jules checked all my boxes. It was laugh-out-loud funny, it was romantic, and it had a relatable female protagonist (I just want to hug her), a panty-dropping male lead, and a cast of hilarious sidekicks who all deserve their own books. Kat was extremely likable and entertaining; what with her stream-of-consciousness fretting, her habit of hiding from the world with a mountain 4 Stars I adore this… Chick-lit isn’t my usual cup of tea but this one is an exception. Her insecurities might frustrate some readers, but surprisingly, I wasn’t all that put off by it. It was endearing to watch her relationship grow with Jules, aka Alpha with a big heart. He is so charming and perfect for her. Jules is high quality book-boyfriend material; I couldn’t get enough of him. He’s intense and sexy; he is wildly passionate and fiercely protective of Kat, and he’s unrelenting in his pursuit to win her heart xox The writing had a beautiful voice, almost poetic which I didnt expect for a chick-lit, but pleasantly surprised.

I esa given an ARC in exchange of an honest review. I’m not trying to be too harsh, but I found the first 40% of the book monotonous, and way too cliche, thank God Jules it ain’t all that goodie boy because I would have gone crazy of boredom from the monotony of the characters. I love Katherine, sometimes I identified with her about so much overthinking and maybe some insecurities as I asume a lot of woman too, that’s why I liked her character, it was relatable at those little things, but those I esa given an ARC in exchange of an honest review. I think the booked needs a dose of drama, the drama that makes you crazy still was a cute reading, I loved Jules even though I expected a little bit more knowledge of his background or maybe more friends. Thank you so much for the opportunity to read this book

4 stars ***** A poignant, funny, romantic read about love and passion. Kat has her routines drawn to the dot. She lives inside her head and is used to being a wallflower. But Jules comes along and flips the script on her life, pretty much scattering the pages to the wind. He introduces her to a wild exuberant ride into his world and Kat is thrust into the unfamiliar. This was an unexpected read for me. I’ve never heard of the author so I didn’t know what to expect. But the writing is beautifully strung together and I enjoyed the wordplays and reoccurring themes/symbols that are throughout. The chemistry between the characters are great, the humor is delightful. I want Nelly to have her own book! Highly recommended.
