It was a dark and stormy night.... Gothic paranormal romance with a twist, pretty much says it all. Big, old scary house, lightning and storms. A ghost, strange happenings and that twist. A twist of fate.... As with Tanya Holmes' contemporary romance/romantic suspense debut, Within Temptation, she has once again, given readers a plot that is different, unexpected, and with an unforeseeable twist. The plot thickens.... You don't get a run-of-the-mill plot. The plot is so thick I couldn't even see to the next page. Set mostly in Maryland on Dr Braeden Frost's estate, Denieve Knight, a psychic private detective, is going undercover as Danielle Reed, the new housekeeper, to determine if Frost killed Deni's friend, Caryn, formerly Frost's receptionist. Frost, nicknamed Dr Death, has been accused of the deaths of a number of his patients, as well as Caryn. Though exonerated, suspicion still hangs over him. Frost has gathered enemies, including the family member of one of his deceased patients, who has hired hitmen to take him out. Two's company, three's a crowd.... This really is one of those books, where the less said the better. However, there are three main characters, each integral to the plot. Braeden Frost Cold, controlled and refined, a private recluse and an attractive enigma. And possibly a murderer. A doctor, cleared of charges, but whose part in the deaths of his patients and receptionist, remains unclear. Despite her own suspicions about Braeden Frost, Deni soon realises there's more to him than what's been reported in the newspapers. Denieve Knight (aka Danielle Reed) A psychic private investigator, whose main gift lies in reading a person's emotional vibes. Xavier Frost The third wheel, Braeden's twin brother, Xavier. Despite their almost identical appearances, Xavier is the antithesis of his cold, yet polite brother. Loud, rude, crude, obnoxious, self-absorbed and arrogant. He’s a slightly unhinged crazy-ass. Two for the price of one.... This is not a ménage nor a love triangle, but still features two very hot guys, physically identical, but different in every other way. Warning: Cliffhanger Ahead.... There's a GIGANTIC CLIFFIE!!! ...but hey, don't let that deter you :)...and lots of unanswered questions. Despite this I didn’t feel disappointed or annoyed, just left with a delicious expectancy for the final instalment. Part 2 is coming out in autumn, 2015. To sum up, Your Honor.... Written from several points-of-view, with Deni's in first-person the rest in third, and sprinkled with touches of humour, this is a captivating and really excellent read. This author’s writing and stories continue to impress me, and I’m not a reader who’s easily impressed. The Darkest Frost is another original and unexpected story from this talented writer. Highly recommended for paranormal romance readers. Steam: 3.5-4 ARC courtesy of Tanya Holmes and Virtual Acquisitions

Is it even possible for you to construct a sentence without the word ‘fuck’ in it?” “Why the fuck do you care?” “She was reciting poetry. ‘Brown Penny’ by Yeats. It’s one of our favorites.” (view spoiler)[“Not ours. Yours.” “That makes it ours, (hide spoiler)] dumb ass. Which reminds me. Donate my books and I’ll rip your fucking tongue out. I only asked you to keep them because I didn’t have room in my old apartment.” “My house isn’t a storage shed, you idiot.” Braeden gestured with his glass. “If you wanted them so bloody badly, you would’ve picked them up ten years ago.” Xavier took a hard sip. “Untwist your panties. I have the perfect place—the new safe house I built. It’s got a huge library and a state-of-the-art aquarium for my pets.” “And, um, after Mr. Colona fixes both doors, do you think it would be a good idea if I had a set of keys to your suite?” “No.” I blinked at his glacial tone. “What if… what if something happens? Another emergency.” “I gather you could always shoot the lock off.” His sarcasm left me momentarily speechless. I guess I need to extend my meager PNR shelf. The Darkest Frost: Volume 1 was a huge personal win for me, that's for sure. After a lot of groundwork, psychic detective Denieve Knight has finally found a way inside Braeden Frost's mansion. The good doctor has been dubbed "Dr. Death" by the press after he'd been linked to nineteen deceased people. One among those nineteen victims is Caryn; she's Denieve's ex-best friend. In order to determine whether Braeden Frost killed Caryn, Denieve is working as Frost's housekeeper under her alias Danielle Reed. The mysterious Braeden is causing her some problems, but the situation is getting even more complicated once Braeden's twin, Xavier, enters the picture. The Darkest Frost: Volume 1 was LOADS OF FUN! I enjoyed it from the start, but what was good in the beginning turned into something fucking great! Oops. Yeah, Braeden, do you even fucking care when I form a sentence with the word 'fuck' in it? Sorry for quoting the hell out of this book, but I just couldn't help myself. I'm still smiling like a goof. Xavier is a pro at sexual innuendos of all sorts…he can devour you with his eyes and his verbal intonations might even give you a couple blisters. Of course the man can sing like a God... Check out Bocelli's Con te Partirò. Andrea Bocelli -- Con te Partirò (With You I Will Leave) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAiIQ... And just because his voice is beautiful and because I can… Canto della Terra (Song of the Earth) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcqPz... Xavier is insanely sexy and incredibly amazing despite his rude behavior and foul-mouthed articulation. Besides, there actually is a heart to be found under all that filthy emission. Well, and Braeden sure as hell isn't too shabby either. Gah. I'm all hormonal over a fictional character, and I'm lying in a friggin' puddle of sex-crazed eggs. His other forearm hit the table and he leaned closer. “How can you not see this? A wellspring of life quickens a single bloom, a bloom resurrected from a dead bush! That’s a miracle if you ask me. Now consider the fact that it’s written in third person present. That gives it immediacy, making the action ongoing. And the poem doesn’t say how long it bloomed. It could’ve been centuries… millenniums. Then there’s the title. The Awakening. If anything, it signifies rebirth and new beginnings.” Another clever innuendo, not sexual though. My favorite scene. I was close to tears. My eyes locked with his and for a few endless seconds I was lost in them. They were impossibly gray, the effect magnified by black lashes that were much thicker than mine. I saw him draw a shaky breath, then his gaze dipped, directing me where to look. In his hands was a diadem of lavender with purple and yellow posies, pansies, and some mum blossoms. It was… beautiful. Xavier fingered the circlet. “Quoting the rest of Marlowe’s silly stanza, A cap of flowers, and a kirtle, embroidered all with leaves of myrtle.” He cautiously untangled a lock of hair from my lashes. The move was as tender as it was unsure, then he gently set the crown atop my head. “Well, here’s your cap.” Miracles do happen Nothing compares to excellent writing and a fantastic plot aaaaand…incredibly sexy male leads in the form of Braeden and Xavier. There is no cheating. I can't explain why because that would be a huge spoiler, but it works just fine because it's paranormal and the author presented it in a way that you can't resist either Braeden or Xavier. You need to read the book to understand what I mean. Well, and then there is a really likable heroine who kicks ass. The cherry on top is a sexual tension that sizzles and terrific chemistry you should inhale, like now. Oh, and the icing on the amazingly delicious cake is the fabulously witty dialogue and the verbal ping-pong matches between Braeden and Xavier. Seriously. Tackling this two-part serial gothic paranormal romance was the best decision I made this year. When you've been reading a ton of crappy books, you come to the point where you've got to ask yourself what to do next. The answer is: branch out and read something different. I mean billionaires don't do it for me -- not in a long time anyway since the awfully untalented E.L. James had the misfortune to grace our reading world with an abusive stalker asshole known as Christian Fuck You Grey. Well, and BDSM shenanigans are only bearable to me these days when written by certain and trusted authors, and I only take them in small doses nowadays. And last but not least, cocky alphaholes who talk with their nine-inch cocks and incarcerate their limited brain cells in their pants to activate their meager sperm, and choke their love interests with overeager sex-athons and enunciate a trite, "Fuck, you're hot" don't really hold my interest anymore, either. Instead, I'll take something like The Darkest Frost anytime, anywhere, and any fucking day. I'm so bloody giddy with excitement I could shout the damn house down! The first half was great, but the second half was PURE AWESOME SAUCE! Yeah, I know. I should keep my exclamation points in check. Blah. Let me indulge just for once. After all, I haven't had so many opportunities to gush over a bloody book this year. Wow. I'm a tiny bit breathless after my emotional outburst. Rating Clarification 4 stars for the first half 5 stars for the second half Do yourself a HUGE favor and pick this book up. I, for one, can't wait to tackle Volume 2 and it goes without saying that I expect to be swept off my feet in the sequel. I withheld the five stars because I think the next one is going to be even better. If that's the case, I will be handing out five stars. That's a promise. Highly recommended. P.S. Team Xavier!!

Denieve Knight is a Psychic Detective and wants answers to her ex best friends,Caryn's,death. Caryn was a receptionist for Dr Braeden Frost, who was also deemed responsible for 19 of his patients deaths. So,under the alias of Danielle Reed, she becomes his new Housekeeper. Braeden is rude, distant, controlled and extremely private and is obviously not all he appears to be. The scene was set perfectly. The creepy house, the thunderstorms, the lightening and a manipulative ghost in Caryn. Add to the mix Braeden's sexy as sin twin brother,Xavier and this had all the makings for a great story and,my god,it certainly was. As a Psychic Denieve has a 'gift' of reading people's emotions so she knows exactly when Braeden and Xavier are lying. They obviously have secrets...but what are they?? There aren't loads of sex scenes but the sexual tension is beyond hot (sometimes that works better for me). And the scene at the end with the flowers had me swooning.... I cannot rate this highly enough and even if paranormal isn't your thing,it might be worth taking a chance. I'm straight into book 2 and it's even better!!

4 STARS This was a very cool and very interesting book! It's a mixture of gothic romance with a heavy dose of the paranormal and a generous side of suspense. When Denieve Knight's best friends ghost implores her for help, the psychic detective knows she must do everything in her power to help her deceased friend. Caryn had died amidst suspicious circumstances, as well as several other people, under the hand of Dr. Braeden Frost. But getting close to the reclusive and potently mysterious Frost pro 4 STARS This was a very cool and very interesting book! But getting close to the reclusive and potently mysterious Frost proves cumbersome for Denieve leaving her no choice but to pose as Danielle Reed and secure a position s housekeeper for the ruined physician. What starts out as an in and out mission meant to prove whether Braeden Frost was responsible for Caryn's death or not, soon becomes much more complicated and dangerous. Denieve can't help but be attracted to the enigmatic Dr. Frost, he's sexy and potently masculine yet exudes a coldness that's hard to explain. Things may seem to be going according to plan, but when the proverbial wrench gets thrown in, in the form of Braeden's brother, Xavier, all bets are off. But NOTHING is what as it seems. Denieve doesn't understand her reaction to both siblings, she's caught in her own form of hell. Throw in some strange ghost activity, people out for blood to get to Dr. Frost, and some seriously fantastic atmosphere and you get this incredibly suspenseful story. If I'm coming off as vague it's very deliberate. This is the type of book that needs to be read almost blind. When the twist happens I wasn't sure I liked the direction the book was going in, but soon enough I found myself engulfed and happily intrigued. The plot walks a tightrope of suspense, it's not your average who dunnit, but an intelligent and complex story that effortlessly blends a variety of sub-genres to make for some great reading. I want to say so much more but I won't, I have many questions but I'm assured I'll get them all answered with book two. This does end on a cliffhanger, one that leaves me flipping the page hoping yet dreading at the same time, afraid I've actually finished. Frustrating? Hell yeah! Did I mention how sensual this was, too? It was a sexy, hot, cool and original story taut with tension and atmospheric unease, can't wait for book 2. **Arc provided by Tanya Holmes for review **

ATTENTION: THIS BOOK HAS A HUUUUGGGEEE CLIFFHANGER!!! What’s not to like when you have two hot guys in a highly unusual story? I must refrain myself from gushing out some heavy spoilers, but I must say that the concept on which the whole story is based is very, very interesting and never before heard of! I love when I get my hands on a book that grabs my attention the way this one has! :) Part of the book is first person narration, from the heroine’s POV, and the rest is third person, from the POVs of the two heroes. Here it is very nicely done, since I usually do not enjoy this kind of POV switching. The paranormal element is is the key word here (view spoiler)[even if only Denieve’s, the heroine, is immediately evedient, the other’s comes out later (hide spoiler)] . The story begins as a classical detective story, where Denieve investigates the involvement of Braeden, the hero, in the death of Caryn, Denieve’s BFF. But soon it evolves in a direction I never expected! I don’t know how to convey the feelings this book evoked, but more that actions, I got to be inside the heads of the various characters. And it was really, really interesting to see how every one of them saw the situations they were in. The character of Denieve, a.k.a. Danielle, her alias, goes from being convinced that the hero is guilty to not understanding him at all (even if she’s mightily attracted to him) to starting to fall in love with him. Put into the pot, his (view spoiler)[twin (hide spoiler)] brother, Xavier and his being temperamentally totally different from Braeden (view spoiler)[while being physically identical (hide spoiler)] , and you can imagine how the situation became explosive and confusing! Besides the mystery, of which we get glimpses during the story, the hotness was very present too! I really don’t want to spoil all the interesting and intriguing things that happen in this book, but I must let you all know that I loved it!!! Highly recommended to all paranormal romance lovers! Ms. Holmes, how can I wait until September to know how the story will end???!!!! You're a cruel, cruel woman! ;)

Romances with a touch of paranormal mystery (both m/f and M/M) are also a genres I most often prefer before just simple contemporary. ~ After a month was it at last time to read the first book and discover by myself. I have some minor stuff I didn't wholeheartedly believe or feel for here but all in all - a truly intriguing romance and 'good enough' series start. I want (need) more. ********************************************* « A Gothic paranormal romance with a twist. » The Psychic detective Denieve Knight wants to solve the unsolved case with her childhood friend's mysterious death a year earlier. Denieve gets a undercover job as housekeeper (as Daniella Reed) in Doctor Braeden Frost's big old (spooky) mansion. ~ Is her friend’s former employer the guilty man and a murderer? Is Frost a dangerous "Dr. Death" as he is dubbed by the press? ‘... I was attracted to Braeden Frost. It was there the first time we met, and it seemed the longer I stayed around him, the pull only intensified. And that scared me. But it wasn’t just physical. Frost intrigued me on many other levels. His intelligence. His sensitivity. Even his darkness.’ Not just one .... two It soons turns out that there are two beautiful goodlooking brothers, twins. The blue-eyed sweeter Braeden Frost and the grey-eyed tougher Xavier Frost. These heroes nearly looks exactly the same but are in mostly every way each other's opposites in temper, interests and abilities. Both are ('course) stunning alpha males with strong sparkling emotions, tremendous sex appeal and unforgettable charisma. After a while are also both these intense and mysterious brothers affecting Denieve soul and mind (deep). ‘He blinked, as if yanking himself from a trance. “I didn’t get your name,” he said, his Scottish brogue suddenly thick. “D, was it?” I swallowed the lump inching up my throat. “Danielle—I mean, Miss Reed. I’m Dr. Frost’s—” “New maid. Yeah, he told me.” “Housekeeper,” I couldn’t help but correct. “Right.” As spoken, the word sounded dismissive. Like the teenaged “whatever.” What is true, what is happening and why? Everything just gets more and more complicated. Our heroine just becomes even more confused for every day and week. ...So is her heart. ********************************************* Mostly hooked and intrigued (but some minor...) In many respects is this without doubts a very good and exciting "paranormal" romance story. The Darkest Frost feels sincerely fresh, well thought out, written and presented. Quite unique as well but I must admit I was a little restless there for a while in the middle. I felt that maybe too many weeks passed here without anything really happening. It didn't fell believable that a female undercover investigator just should stay there and cook two meals a day, do nearly nothing more, next to never be outside or leave the house, or get any of her own free time for weeks. Really? — Almost as if there are just two (or sometimes as much as three) people in a room on a plain theater stage. An claustrophobic feeling. — I needed air. ‘Fear sliced through me. So much so that I hauled off and slapped him as hard as I could. Only I wasn’t just slapping him, I was slapping myself, slapping down these alien feelings, trying to bring sanity back to both of us. But it didn’t work. If anything, it dumped a ton of gasoline on a raging inferno.’ I might be hard here but... I did never sincerely feel for this heroine. Denieve / Daniella was too secretly "incognito" even for me as a reader. I yearned for more of her emotions, preferences, life before this case and so on. Especially important when she is character here who is mostly narrating and the one with most POV pages / chapters. Denieve is, I'm sorry to say, still an anonymous stranger to me after more than 300 pages. Luckily are these two Frost brothers so much more interesting. I felt that this story so far, are theirs ... with a female, rather uninteresting and pale (but of course hørny), observer. — Maybe I'm too mean and cranky now? (Yell at me, haha!) I just hope for improvement and more love for the heroine to come. Yes indeed, it was finally a bit crowded and too stuffy for me behind those Frost mansion gates. I hope and wish to be released from there immediately. Now I want more speed, exciting adventure and story development. Add grand sweet romance stuff and less of a theatrical single-room drama. However, just at the end turned this to a more exciting fast paced story. Yay, I felt that my heart started to pound ...at last. ********************************************* This first The Darkest Frost ends very cliffy like as we also already knew it should as that is clearly stated (in an exemplary good manner) in the book blurb. Looking forward to pick up the next part, #2-The Darkest Frost: Volume 2. I'm sure (...or at least cross my fingers that) I'll love it as much (mostly 5 stars reviews) as all my friends here. I LIKE - me some amazing and very intense heroes

I wasn't surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Denieve Knight, is a psychic detective who goes undercover to try and find her best friend, (Caryn's) killer who she believes is Dr. Braeden Frost, her friend's employer. The press are all over Dr. Braeden Frost because he is linked to nineteen mysterious deaths of his former patients. Dr. Frost is mysterious and reclusive, frequently locking himself in his lab for many hours at time. One night Denieve shoots her way into Dr. Frost's lab and finds him on the floor with his wrist all bloody. Denieve who believes he is dead calls 911 during a horrific thunderstorm. Her calls for help go unanswered and eventually delayed due to the weather. Events take a crazy unimaginable turn from hereon in. "It was a little before nine p.m. when Braeden Frost dragged his sorry ass to Caryn Gilson’s grave. He must’ve saved the best for last. Given the three other gravesites Frost visited tonight, the crazy fuck had been a busy beaver. Clutching a thick spray of purple and white flowers, Frost knelt over the ebony headstone." Events get even more suspenseful when Xavier Frost, Dr. Frost's twin brother enters the picture. Oh— my God. I was staring at a mirror image of Braeden Frost. They were more than brothers. They were identical twins. Same classically handsome face. Same chiseled cheekbones. Same— Their eyes were different. While Dr. Frost’s were sky blue, his brother’s were cool gray. I’d never heard of such a thing." Braeden Frost must leave on a trip, however he asks Xavier to watch over Denieve and the house while he is gone. Xavier and Denieve dislike each other and play a game of cat and mouse during Braeden's absence. Events come to head between them and neither can deny their mutual attraction. "His face was a mask of fury as he backed me into the wall none too gently and loomed over me. His powerful hands were like shackles around my wrists as his chest pumped up and down. “Be warned,” Xavier said, teeth clenched, “I’m nothing like my brother.” He slammed my arms on either side of my head against the wall, with his fists taking the brunt of the impact. “The difference being, I bite. So any hitting will be considered foreplay.” His sharp eyes pierced me. “Are we clear?” My breath caught. “You’re deranged…” Mystery, intrigue, suspense, passion along with some steamy sex scenes, this book has it all. Beware it does end with a cliff-hanger which I didn't find too bad. You will just have to read it for yourself. I highly recommend it and will read book two!!

When the ghost of her best friend begs for her help, psychic detective Denieve Knight goes undercover as a live-in domestic to catch a killer. She sets her sights on the most likely suspect: her friend’s mysterious employer, Doctor Braeden Frost. I am not a huge fan of PNR but saw this doing the rounds and a lot of my friends enjoyed it. I have read another book by Ms Holmes before and enjoyed it. I sort of avoided reviews as there is a bit of a twist in it that is quite a surprise. Denieve Knight is a psychic that had been summoned by her late best friend to investigate on her ex-employer, Dr. Frost. He's like a mad scientist, hole up in his private lab doing God knows what. I keep wondering what's his deal and is he guilty? Why the heck is he wearing the glove 24/7? Getting to know about Braeden true identity is what makes the first half of the book so exciting and unputdownable. Brace for some shocking revelation that left you flabbergasted and speechless. I just can't stop reading even into the middle of the night. I keep telling myself just one more chapter before I sleep. The awkward relationship between Denieve and Braeden reminds me of Jane Eyre. Denieve tried to fulfill his every needs, while Braeden tried his damnest not to care about her presence. The sexual tension between these two are simply delicious to read. But all the secrets and eccentricities of Braeden is driving Denieve crazy. After spending weeks in his mansion, she is no closer to cracking his closet of hidden monster. To make matter worst she is suffering a serious case of lust for her elusive employer. "A withering bud awaits the kiss of rain, a kindness to make it bloom." Braeden Frost is a such a tortured hero. His had a rich and colorful past and an extreme case of baggage overload. If he were to reveal the truth to Denieve, will she be able to accept him still? Or will she admit him to the nearest loony bin? I had some issue with the second half of the book when a certain someone was introduced into the mixed and we had to spend time on all these back and forth. Is hard to explain this little problem I had without giving out any details. I felt that the pacing for the second half was slower and it seems like the story losses its steam towards the end. However, the unresolved ending left me panting for more. I wish everything will work out for Braeden. I hope Tanya Holmes will spend more time on the suspense part of the story related to Braeden's secret and the fatalities and less time on the back and forth weird feelings of Denieve.

4 - "You must understand... I am what I do." Stars! I didn’t really know what to expect when I started reading The Darkest Frost as although the synopsis gives you a little hint of what the story is about, it doesn’t really give you any information as to what direction the story may take, the backgrounds of the lead characters or the unusual skills and talents that both of them are living and dealing with. The thing is, I cannot really give too much away in relation to the plot without offering up 4 - "You must understand... I am what I do." Stars! The thing is, I cannot really give too much away in relation to the plot without offering up spoilers, so I am going to do my best to encourage you to read the book without really giving anything away. To say this is one of the most unusual, unique and interestingly written books I have read in a long time would be an understatement, the author offered up a set of characters, back stories, secrets and gradual development that keeps you on their toes, at points I was just starting to approach the stage of wondering what the hell was going on, and the author would drop in a little nugget of information that clarified a lot of what I was getting confused about, it isn’t hard to read or understand, but the level of information given on each of the characters as the story develops is such that you are given enough to know what is going on, but never enough to fully be able to work out where the author is ultimately going to take you. It certainly keeps you attentive to the characters and the story. Told in several POV’s as well as jumping back and forth in parts you need to make sure you are fully awake when you are reading this book a lot happens, and it’s a case of ’blink and you’ll miss it’ if you aren’t paying attention to the chapter headers and whose head you are currently in. Creepy, spooky, sexy, unique and really, really enjoyable. If you are looking to read something totally new and different then this is the book for you. Although it does finish on a cliffy, so if that isn’t your thing I would recommend you wait for part two, because otherwise you will end up like me, screaming at your Kindle, because although you learn a lot in the first part, you still don’t really know anything at all, and I am dying to know where the author will take the dark and elusive Dr. Braeden Frost, and Denieve Knight in its follow-up. ”I’ve only known you a little over a month, yet it feels like a million years.” ARC generously provided by the author, and it was my pleasure to provide the above honest review.

4.5 Stars! A unique, complex, absorbing read! Tanya Holmes has quite the imagination, I can’t recall reading anything quite like The Darkest Frost and it was a refreshing…a real page turner! First few pages in, I wondered where the heck this story was headed, few more after that it had me raising my eyebrows, not in a bad way, more like…wow, this is really good! I’m not even going to get into the plot , because it’s necessary for the reader to find their own way through it. The story is told from multiple points-of-view, and in the case of Denieve, in first person, which can be somewhat confusing initially, but then it all falls into place. I found it to be a well-constructed story that grabbed hold and didn’t let go! Denieve Knight is a delightful character; headstrong, sympathetic and funny, a character I could see myself wanting more books constructed around. Braeden Frost might be dubbed “Dr. Death”, but in my book he’s “Dr. Hot”…melted me right into a puddle of goo! He’s brooding, distant, and in the eyes of the public is an alleged murderer, yet, there is something about him that that makes him vulnerable and you can’t help but feel sorry for him and fall hopelessly in love with him. The chemistry between Denieve and Braeden is sizzling, and the eventual sexual intimacy is smokin’ hot! The author’s unique prose makes it some of the most sensual and passionate hanky panky I’ve ever read…you feel it all over…right down to your toes! The sex doesn’t consume the story, but when the two of them go at it…PHEW! It’s no easy task to write a story with a darker theme with an underlying tone of humor that blends well together, but the author manages to do just that. It’s not over the top comedy, but through some of the character’s self-assessments, most particularly Denieve, the wit definitely comes through. I found myself chuckling throughout the book as her mind wandered with random thoughts, and when she reprimanded herself for some of her actions. I’m not a fan of cliff-hangers, but it’s not uncommon in this particular genre for the overall arc of the story to continue from book to book. You won’t get an HEA at the end of The Darkest Frost, but I wasn’t bothered with how it wrapped up, I’m just dying for more! While not a complete story, it was still a satisfying one, and in all fairness to the author, she does warn readers that the story will continue in the next installment. If you’re a fan of paranormal books where humor blends together with the serious, then this is the book for you. She’s not quite there, but close, and if Tanya Holmes can keep up the momentum, she could give some of the top authors in this genre a run for the money. I’m certainly hoping this is a series and genre she will continue to explore after the conclusion of The Darkest Frost!

Wow! What an ending to the first part!! I am so darn glad that I waited until both volumes were out before I started!! (yes, I cheat!!) I am going to keep this brief as I am dying to start volume two immediately! I quite enjoyed this story, although I will be honest and say that there were parts that felt kind of slow for me. There were times when I would sigh and say...Boring!! LOL It is true though, towards the end the story does start to pick up. I am very into it at this point. The other thi Wow! It is a paranormal romance; but it is a very unique one which is refreshing!!! A definite must read if you are looking for something different with some very passionate and primal sex!! I can't ever forget to mention the great sex in a book!!!! Moving on the next volume!!

I got an ARC in exchange for an honest review. What a breath of fresh air! I'm not really into these sort of modern gothic romance type books. I like the classic kind, but I figured I would give it a try and I'm very glad I did. It was an unusual story that I had a hard time predicting. These things usually go one way or another, but this one went sideways. It was a welcomed surprise that didn't end. Every page had some new discovery. Let's just say this isn't your usual paranormal romance, urban fantasy, romantic suspense, mystery, ghost story. It's so much more. That's why it's a keeper. It's got some really hot sex scenes too. That's a bonus. Tired of vampires, werewolves, and the usual suspects? Here's something quite original and different.

This story was truly a little slow to start. But when Denieve and Braeden had their first sexual encounter, it knocked my sock off. Super hot!!! The story really picked up from there, and kept me totally sucked in. The story is very unique, and there's absolutely no guessing what was going to happen next. I'm itching to see what will happen with these three characters. Ooh, and that scene with Xavier towards the ending. OMG!! I was first introduced to Tanya Holmes when I read Within Temptation. It was one of my top favorite books last year. So, yes, I was looking forward to something new from her and she did not disappoint! This book blew my mind... I LOVED it! Another one to add to my top favorites this year. This story is incredibly engaging with a refreshingly original storyline that left me panting for more by the end! I seriously need the second part of this book right now... I can't believe I have to wait! It's killing me... Dr. Frost is such an incredibly complex character. He is mysterious, sexy and intriguing. The forbidden relationship that develops between him and Denieve has me both on edge but at the same time trying to figure out how the heck things are going to work out. There is a surprise character that steps into the picture that has me completely conflicted. Love/hate, love/hate... two emotions that has these characters so completely divided... and I mean that literally! Just read the book... you'll see what I mean. :) Yes, this book ends on a cliffy but I absolutely don't care... it's such a well developed storyline and I can see why splitting it into two books is necessary. But, if you don't want to be left hanging the second part comes out in the Fall and you can read them back to back. If you love Ghost stories, Paranormal Romance and suspense then you can't go wrong diving into this book. It is all those wrapped up into one well written story that definitely had me glued to the pages. Do I recommend?? Of course I do... Danieve aka Danielle, I’m going to stick with Danielle here for the moment so that I don’t confuse you, can read vibes of people more importantly emotions, lies smell like manure. She is trying to find out who killed her friend and is undercover at Dr. Death and the media & press has dubbed him. Even without talking to Braeden there is something between them. Danielle encounters the ghost of her friend and so the twists and turns in the plot begin. It has been a very long time that I have read anything that is so unique and original that pulls you into the book and where you just want to continue reading this book. You want to meet the characters in person. You feel what they feel be it joy, sadness, desperation and the emptiness that surrounds the Hero. Luckily enough well for me anyway I’m on holiday this week so I could really enjoy this book without any disturbances. I am enthralled, enchanted and really impressed by this book. Luckily enough for me as well I waited for the second book to come out before I started the series. Review can also be found at http://jerisbookattic-reviewblog.blog...

This is a tough book to review without giving away integral parts of the story so I am going to refrain from any sort of overview. I do however have a few thoughts to note. This is a paranormal but in a more unusual sense than I am used to reading. There are no vampires or werewolves, fairies or the like. It is unique and original! The book ends in a cliffhanger. I HATE cliffhangers! So reading The Darkest Frost, knowing it was a going to end with a cliffhanger, was a huge leap of faith and trust for me. I am so happy I took that leap. Yes, I still have a millions questions. Yes, I am impatient to continue the story but I am actually OK with letting this story simmer awhile longer. It ended just where it needed too. I had no late night urge to hunt down the author with my freshly sharpened pitchfork. ;) There is definitely a steam factor to this read. It's not overloaded but it's there and it's hot! Ms. Holmes can definitely turn up the heat! The Darkest Frost really resonated with me and I hope it does the same for the rest of you!!! There is something deeper going on within this book that is more than mere words on a page. This book is still very much with me. I suspect it will be for a long while. I am in reader Heaven! I was gifted an ARC and I have left my Honest review.

Okay. Well. I loved this. This was just the kind of book I needed- something very different. Kudos to Miss Holmes for coming up with this idea. I will say, the first 10-15 pages or so were a little slow... especially with the time jumping. BUT once that was settled, I immediately started to love the characters and as the plot unfolded, that as well. Braedon was great, but can we talk about Xavier? Omg. It's not a super romancy book though that is certainly a prominent element. Just with that... Okay. Well. I loved this. This was just the kind of book I needed- something very different. "A withering bud awaits the kiss of rain, a kindness to make it bloom." So I must admit that when Tanya first contacted me and asked me to review The Darkest Frost I was a bit apprehensive. Gothic romances are not really my thing, but I'm always open to trying new things so I decided to give it a try. The risk was definitely worth it because I really enjoyed this book. Now I'm going to provide limited details on the plot because the true beauty comes from experiencing all the surprises as you read "A withering bud awaits the kiss of rain, a kindness to make it bloom." Now I'm going to provide limited details on the plot because the true beauty comes from experiencing all the surprises as you read. The book opens with the heroine, Denieve, infiltrating Braeden Frost's home under the pretense of being his personal assistant. Denieve is in fact trying to find out what happened to her best friend who was killed. Braeden is mysterious, sexy and smart doctor who is no longer practicing after many of his patients died under mysterious circumstances. This air of mystery and gothic ambience on each page leaves readers guessing at the end of every chapter. Every time I thought I had some of the puzzle figured out Tanya trampled my theory, and the story headed in another direction. The heroine Denieve is no pushover and is determined to get to the bottom of the secrets and lies. She's funny and I enjoyed the fact that she wasn't a beauty who did and said everything right. She made mistakes at times, and acknowledged them. This book is modern Jane Eyre tale. There's a paranormal aspect that makes the story even more intriguing. 'I was a chameleon and a liar, an imposter who'd violated his trust and privacy. Repeatedly. It was a train wreck waiting to happen.' The best part of all is this book is full of plenty of steam. Tanya does not shy away from throwing in a healthy dose of smut to get hearts and other body parts throbbing. Even though I'm writing this review from the bottom of my heart, my words are insufficient to convey the thrills, surprise, and excitement I felt while reading this. With all this said The Darkest Frost is a paranormal/gothic/ suspense romantic must read. There's something in there for everyone. Rating: 4.5 Stars

A gothic romance with something paranormal going on is the basic setting for this book. I don’t think there is any solid world building, btw. I read this in one sitting. It took me about seven hours with a few bathroom and beverage breaks. Nice, unusual, page turning story with scorcher sex scenes and two hot pieces of eye candy to keep you warm. One's an emotionally repressed introverted hottie. The other is a sexy nutcase. That's a wonderful combination and the heroine is the kind you can root for. She's likable and smart. To try and categorize this little gem is hard.
